Bird Ballad trio

Hello and welcome to my blog today. We are on holiday this week enjoying a relaxing time in sunny Suffolk by the sea. The weather has been glorious!

Today's cards features the wonderful papers from the Bird Ballad suite and just a tiny bit of stamping! I love our designer Series Paper and I picked this particular piece for the background because both the stripes and the colours reminded me of beach huts. When I made the card I hoped that I would be seeing some of the famous Southwold beach huts in real life this week!

The cards are simple square cards with neat, narrow layers. The birds are punched out from a piece of DSP using the 2" circle punch. I used the Starburst punch to cut out the coordinating layer - these two punches nest together so well.

Using the stripes as a guide I teamed the birds up with a Starburst layer. I chose different colours depending on the colour of the birds. This way the cards all look different!

My favourite bit about the cards is the texture on the DSP. I used the Subtle embossing folder to work it's magic on the paper, and now it almost looks like linen. I keep thinking that the embossing folder has been incorrectly named. Subtle by name, but the effect it gives is so much more. It really adds that extra something to a card.

I used the Scalloped Lace trim to wrap around the layers and some natural linen thread to tie a little bow. The only stamping on the card is the little hello which was stamped, trimmed very closely to give a very skinny sentiment and then placed near the bow. Add a few basic pearls and the cards were finished! Very easy, yet fun to make.
