Have I gone mad? Faux Metal and Wood Words! Read on and see. I watched a demonstration of regular heat embossing many years ago. At that moment my stamping passion began. The transformation of the image in Versamark ink, covered with special powder through to heating it was pure magic. From that very first demonstration I was hooked. I still love heat embossing and seeing the powdery image developing into a raised shiny one. A while ago Stampin' Up! published a video all about the Faux Metal Embossing Technique. After watching the video I knew I had to have a go!
Sitting
on my craft desk I am surrounded with objects that I've made or that my
children have made - one such item is a square Night of Navy frame with
a large letter K in the middle and you can see it here. The time has come for a revamp, and this is what I've made, for me, to sit on my desk.
The Crumb Cake frame is stamped using the flowers from the Wood Words stamp set using Early Espresso ink. There are three layers of Versamark ink/copper embossing powder on the feature square. Once the final layer was molten the flower stamp (inked up with versamark ink to protect the stamp and act as a release) was pressed into it. Take care, it is HOT! After releasing the stamp, I reinked it with Versamark, and gently reheated the bare area of copper. Once the copper was molten again I pressed the inked stamp into it for a second time. Word of warning - don't reheat the entire piece because your first impression will melt away!
Regular heat embossing, using clear powder over Early Espresso ink, is used to create the shiny K. First, ink up the letter stamp with Versamark ink and then ink up with Early Espresso ink before stamping onto Crumb Cake card. The Versamark in this double layer of ink keeps the coloured ink wet long enough to allow the clear embossing powder to stick! You can then heat in the normal way until it goes shiny.
The copper faux metal layer is mounted onto Early Espresso and copper foil layers, and the K is placed centrally, raised up using dimensionals. I am going to enjoy looking at this new piece on my desk! I hope you try this technique and maybe make a present for yourself or as a gift.

Hello and welcome to some more card making fun using the Icing on the Cake stamps. Initially, this stamp set had passed me by and I hadn't even put it on my wish list. A happy opportunity came about and I was able to experiment with it a little, and then I was hooked. Now I have my own stamp set I have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the possibilities with it. I have made cards suitable for male and female birthdays and also some congratulations cards too.
To start with I made a simple border from piped icing - the longest border stamp lends itself to US 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" sized cards, so I worked with inches throughout. This is a little out of my comfort zone as I usually work in centimetres! It was worth persevering with for the end result though.
The Whisper White layers I have stamped on measure 5 1/8" x 3 7/8/" and 3 5/8" x2 3/8". As the stamps are photopolymer it is straightforward to build up a pattern of sugary icing in an array of delicious colours.
I'm happy with the initial design, but the stamp set also contains some gorgeous flowers and balloons that I wanted to include on my cards. Using them, together with the Wink of Stella glitter, has really enhanced my basic card design and the fussy cutting was easy too.

Hello and welcome to my blog. Today I have a fun birthday card to share with you. Sending a card to celebrate a birthday is wonderful and sharing some birthday cake is even better! So how about combining birthday wishes with a stamp set called Icing on the Cake?
The stamps in this set are photopolymer which makes lining them up straightforward - for the first piped row I lined the bottom of the photopolymer stamp up with the bottom of the card. For the next piped row the bottom edge of the stamp is lined up with the top of the first row of icing, and so on. The only exception being for the dotty icing, either side of the words, which was stamped so that it appeared midway through the letters.
This "iced" piece sits on top of a layer embossed using the Polka Dot Basics folder to complete the card. Gather a selection of coordinating inks and have fun piping...I mean stamping...to create your very own iced birthday cards.
