Hello and welcome to my blog. I think it is true to say that the more you use something the more you love it and the more ideas pop into your head. It is so true for this Come Sail Away suite. A few weeks ago I was in a creative slump and I was stuck for ideas. As soon as I started putting ink to paper and began stamping ideas began to flow. Phew! My sketch book is filled with notes and I hope I have enough time to make them all.
Today's card is small, compact and includes lots of my favourite elements. I love creating a pattern and stamping with ink that matches the cardstock. The background is a series of Night of Navy compass images all lined up in a grid on Night of Navy card. Admitedly, the majority of the images are hidden by the additional layers, but I love the way the compass image breaks up the Night of Navy border. Stamping this way is a great alternative to using Designer Series Paper (although I do love using DSP for backgrounds too).
Stitched edged elements are my absolute favourite, and I am so pleased that we now have so many dies that feature stitched edges. The Stitched Shapes were, I think, the first ones to be introduced and they are definitely my most used. I have teamed them up with the stitched label from the Smooth Sailing dies into which the 1 1/2" circle punch nests wonderfully.
Another thing that I have done lots of recently is to use a range of shades of the same colour. By stamping off on to scrap paper before stamping the actual image on your project you can create a series of shades that fade progressively lighter. Beautiful ombre effects can be created with just ink pad - so versatile! The faded lighthouse image was stamped off first.
The final piece of the jigsaw for today's card is to use the coordinating elements from the suite. The bakers twine is a mixture of Night of Navy and Sahara Sand, which prompted me to use these colours for the card base and layers. The trinkets are adorable - the pack contains both anchors and ship's wheels - and they finish of the card so well.
So, by combining some of my favourite crafting ingredients I created this square card - it measures 9.9cm x 9.9cm. This size card is actually another favourite of mine - and you can make three bases from one sheet of A4 card!
I hope you like today's nautical themed card. If
