Stamping Inkspirations Blog Hop - May 2021

Hello and welcome to my blog! Today I am taking part in a blog hop with some fellow enthusiasts who love sharing their creative talents using their Stampin' Up!® products. This month the Stamping Inkspirations blog hop has a floral theme.

I have a bright collection of cards to share with you today. Flowers are cheerful and a delight to receive for many occasions so I have chosen to leave the front of the card free from sentiment. Now, I'm ready to go when I need a card in a hurry!

I have used the Hand Penned Suite to create my cards today, together with the and the Scalloped Contours Dies, which have a gorgeous array of frames. The Hand-Penned Petals stamps have lovely outlines of flowers together with some solid, fill in stamps for the petals and leaves. I am a complete novice at watercolouring, but these stamps give an effortless faux watercolour look and gave me the confidence to experiment!

I stamped several images using Black StazOn ink on Fluid 100 Watercolor paper, to give the best results when as I was introducing water! The layouts for the cards are basically the same, but I tried different ways to colour the flowers.

For the first card the flowers are simply stamped with the solid, fill in stamps from the set. The colours don't line up perfectly with the outlines and that is intentional - you don't have to be too precise and it adds to the faux watercolour look. I have used Gorgeous Grape, Fresh Freesia, Daffodil Delight and Granny Apple Green inks. The flower spray can be cut out using the coordinating dies. Texture is added by using the Tasteful Textile embossing folder on the layering elements and popping the flowers up on Dimensionals. Wink of Stella splatters, Fresh Freesia Open Weave Ribbon and Matt Black Dots are added as finishing touches.

For the second card I introduced some water to make the ink spread and flow - it's unpredictable but fun! I spritzed water onto the Fluid 100 paper over the stamped image, and as before coloured the flowers and leaves using the solid, fill in stamps. As the ink meets the water it begins to spread and the colours mingle. Each time I did this the result was different and depended on how much water there was on the paper and how juicy my ink pad was (a couple of them desperately needed to be reinked!)

For my third card I used a more traditional watercolouring technique using ink and a Water Painter. I coloured each little section in turn by first dampening the paper using the Water Painter (I used the medium one) and then painting in the ink to colour while the paper was still damp. I transferred some ink to an acrylic block to act as a palette. The depth of colour is uneven, and it doesn't stay completely with in the lines, but I'm ok with that.

All three techniques were fun to try, and gave different results and I'm not sure which I prefer! All Star Tutorial Bundle Blog Hop - Ice-Cream Corner Suite

To give you even more inspiration each of us has created another project using the Ice-Cream Corner Suite products. Here is my project for today.

It's a cute little shaker card with a side order of raspberry ripple!  The colours are quite eclectic, but overall I think that they work because of the variety of colours in the sprinkles! The card base is Basic White topped with Blackberry Bliss and the circle frame is from Cinnamon Cider to match the Designer Series Paper used for the ice-cream cone.

The raspberry ripple ice cream is created by adding colour to the watercolour paper directly from the embossing folder - I added Petal Pink ink all over the surface of the Painted Texture embossing folder and then added a touch of Merry Merlot ink to a few of the raised areas. Before running through the Stampin' Cut & Emboss machine I spritzed both the paper and the embossing folder with some water. As the sandwich is embossed, the ink spreads and is absorbed by the paper making a lovely ripple of colour. The scoops of ice cream can be punched out once the paper is thoroughly dry.

I cut an aperture in a layer of Blackberry Bliss card using the Layering Circles dies and then embossed the layer using the Tasteful Textile folder. This aperture is framed with a Cinnamon Cider Scalloped circle. To create the shaker element I placed a square of DSP inside a clear envelope, added a scoop of the Ice Cream Corner Sprinkles and secured it behind the aperture. Obviously, the ice cream itself needed sprinkles too! To finish the card, the sentiment is white heat embossed. Go on, treat yourself - could you resist that invitation?
