Hello and welcome to my blog. I have had a few days away from my craft desk and been creative in other ways, including making a cake which has gone down very well with my family. So, this morning I was keen to get creating again and I was totally inspired by not one, but two challenges! Over the past few months I have thoroughly enjoyed participating in a few challenges, but I have never before combined two themes in one card.
The colours for my card were suggested by The Paper Players.
I have followed the the layout from Freshly Made Sketches.
I have to be completely honest and confess that yellow is not one of my go to colours, but as a happy chain of thought started (yellow, flowers, garden etc) this card came together quite easily. I was thinking of the poppies that grew in our garden when I was a child. Mum sowed a packet of seeds in the border and up grew some poppies - not the red remembrance variety, but bright vibrant colours. My memory tells me (and Google just confirmed it for me!) that they were called Californian Poppies. They were a real pop of colour in the border, even though Mum's favourite colours were much more subtle!
No questions, the card had to be made with the Peaceful Moments bundle didn't it? The solid So Saffron poppy die cuts are embossed twice with the Subtle embossing folder. Using the folder twice, at right angles to each other, gives a wonderful texture to the petals. The leaves are die cut from Gray Granite and Vellum. Both the leaves and petals were curled by pulling them between my bone folder and thumb before mounting them on the Gray Granite background.
I used the dotty mask, from the Basic Pattern Decorative set, a sponge dauber and Gray Granite ink to add a very subtle decoration to the background and there are also one or two splatters from the matching Stampin' Write Marker pen. To ensure that the sentiment was bold and stands out I used StazOn ink - the words are wonderful and quite by fluke it fits perfectly on the card. There are Faceted Dots in the current InColors, so I've added a few Seaside Spray ones to finish off the card.
Thank you for joining me today - I'm off for some fresh air and to take a look in my garden.
