Love Cats for Valentine's Day

Hello and welcome to my blog. Happy Valentine's Day! Throughout 2023, it is my intention to send more cards. I make cards all the time, but I don't send nearly enough of them! Some of the Stampin' Up!' leaders had a fabulous idea to help us do just that. Demonstrators were encouraged to pledge to send a Valentine's card - in return for pledging to send a card, someone else would send a card to you. I jumped at the chance to participate. I made a few extras to send happy post to friends and family, aswell as to my sweetheart.

The Love Cats set has some wonderful sentiments AND some fun feline images (obviously!) and I used them to make two different designs. I love both hearts and cats, so this was a combination that was meant to be. The other main ingredients I used for the cards were the Country Gingham 6" x 6" papers, the Scalloped Countour dies, Brick & Mortar embossing folder and the Heart Punch Pack. I also added some Linen Thread/Baker's Twine and a few die cut hearts from the Conversation Bubbles set for added decoration.

I am super pleased with how these turned out. They are pretty cute and so easy to make. I felt really happy popping them in the mail. I hope that they bring a smile to the faces of the people who open them. Card making is so much fun, isn't it?

Stamping Inkspirations Blog Hop - A Colour Challenge

Hello and welcome to my blog! Today I am taking part in a blog hop with some fellow enthusiasts who love sharing their creative talents using their Stampin' Up!® products. This month the Stamping Inkspirations blog hop is all about colour.

Participating in a Challenge is so much fun. Firstly, one of the most important design elements has been decided for you and then you are free to take your creativity in whatever direction you want. Then for more inspiration, you can hop around to see what the other participants have created using the same starting point. Win win!

For this Colour Challenge the colours we are working with, in no particular order, are So Saffron, Orchid Oasis, Tahitian Tide, Shaded Spruce and Sweet Sorbet. In addition, Nature's beauty provides some beautiful inspiration.

My thought process was very simple; from pretty flowers to the Petal Park bundle, which is one of the bundles within the Regency Park Suite. It's so easy to stamp and punch a bunch of flowers then mix and match them on to a card. And, that is exactly what I did!

I stamped the outline flowers using full strength Sweet Sorbet, Tahitian Tide and Orchid Oasis. To colour the petals I used the matching fill-in stamp and the coordinating colour, but this time I stamped off onto scrap paper first to create a lighter shade. The trio of flowers is easily cut out using the Petal Park Builder punch. My pile of flowers grew quite quickly and then it was time to arrange them.

Next, I stamped the leaves in Shaded Spruce on a piece of Basic White cut to nest inside an Orchid Oasis layer cut with the Scalloped Contour dies. This time I did not use the fill in stamps, which kept the layer quite light and fresh looking. To add a bit more interest to the white layer, I ran it through my embossing machine with the Timeworn Type folder.

Flowers were scattered in and around the leaves varying the colour and size, topping them with a Basic Pearl coloured with the Dark So Saffron Blend pen. I felt that the composition needed a little more So Saffron, so I added the tiniest of layers behind the textured white piece. I wrapped a length of white Baker's Twine around the layers and tied a loose bow with it before popping it up on Dimensionals on the frame.

I adhered the decorated frame onto a top-folding Thick Basic White card base, but the card didn't feel quite complete. So, I stamped one of the thin sentiments from the Sentimental Park set, which is also in the Regency Park Suite. To echo the So Saffron Border I added a skinny border of Orchid Oasis around the Happy Birthday sentiment tucking it in next to one of the flowers and nestling it under the Baker's Twine. Card complete!

All Star Design Team Blog Hop - Country Floral Lane Suite

For the blog hop at the start of the month, each of us will create another project using the featured suite of products to give you even more inspiration. Here is my Country Floral Lane Suite card created for this hop. 

I love anything heart-shaped, so I was immediately drawn to this suite of products! There are so many possibilities with it and it's definitely more than just Valentine's Day set. Although, it is perfect for those cards too.

I teamed the Designer Series Papers, stamps and punch from this suite together with another stamp/punch bundle to create my cards for today's hop. The stamps from the Alphabest Bundle enable you to spell out words and names, aswell as having numbers, and you can create adorable little tags using the coordinating punch. There are even images to create tiny frames around the letters.

I used the same basic layout to create several cards, and I am really pleased with them all. They are the same but, at the same time, they are different!

I added DSP to the centre of a die cut a frame from the Scalloped Contours set and wrapped some white Baker's Twine around it before popping it up on dimensionals and adding it to a standard sized base card. I've used both stamped images and the DSP to punch out hearts to decorate my cards and used the central piece of DSP to determine the colours I used.

To create the words I used one of my favourite techniques, and that is heat embossing. First, I stamped the frames using Versamark and then heat embossed them. As a separate process I then stamped and heat embossed the letters. Although heat embossing twice adds an extra step, I found it easier to centre the letters this way, and also I was less likely to smudge the embossing powder!

The majority of the heat embossing was white, but for this card I inked the letters up using Versamark, then Sweet Sorbet before stamping onto Basic White card and then heat embossing using clear powder. This way I was able to create shiny Sweet Sorbet coloured letters.
