Let your light shine with High Tide

Hello and welcome to my blog. I am thrilled to be taking part in Kylie's International Highlights Blog Hop today. A huge THANK YOU goes to everyone who voted for my card in the gallery earlier this month - your votes have enabled me to take part in today's hop!

If you missed it, you can see the project that I shared in the gallery HERE.

The theme for this hop is Encouragement and I have chosen to use the High Tide stamp set, which is probably feeling neglected because I haven't used it for quite a while. Looking at the sentiments in this set reminded me of my old school moto, which was 'Let Your Light Shine!' In our house we are entering the dreaded exam season. The fridge is covered with a colour coded exam timetable - the first ones are next week and they go on until mid-June, so it seemed appropriate to use this set today.

The lighthouse is bold and striking in Night of Navy and Real Red. I used my Stamparatus to stamp the two step image, the gravel and the sentiment. While the Stamparatus was all set up I stamped a few more to use on future cards.

I used the Stitched Rectangle dies to crop out the image, a Night of Navy frame and a large background piece from some Happiness Blooms patterened paper. I love the stitched edge finish to the layers. To complete the look I've tied a reef knot in some Bakers Twine (which will be available in the new catalogue) and wrapped it around the frame. Dimensionals lift the layer proud of the patterened paper, which sits on the Real Red card base.

Thank you so much for joining me today - don't forget to encourage yourself and to let your light shine! You are currently at my blog, Karen Henderson -  have a look below at the list of the other winners to see who else to visit. Enjoy hopping round each of the blogs to find more inspiration.

This Little Piggy can!

Hello and welcome to my blog. Happy Bank Holiday Monday! The long weekend has been sunny and bright, which makes a pleasant change for a bank holiday. I am sharing a card I made for The Paper Players Clean-and-Simple paper piecing challenge.

http://thepaperplayers.blogspot.com/2019/04/pp438-clean-and-simple-challenge-from.html

The message on my card is something I am going to pin up on the fridge along side the very long list of exams that are ahead of us this summer...I will keep reminding my children that a positive attitude really helps...and for them to repeat 'I believe I can...'

I've used the simply gorgeous Twinkle, Twinkle papers. Yes, they are cute and perfect for baby cards, but they are described in the catalogue as 'Stars for babies and other VIP's in your life' which covers plenty of occasions and recipients. I love the simple designs, and the pastel colours on these papers work perfectly for the flying pig!

I have used the Stitched Rectangle dies to create a frame in Bermuda Bay card.  I have used a frame on quite a few of the cards I have made recently; I must be addicted to this look! To make the frame lay two nesting dies on top of a quarter sheet of card and make sure the gap between the dies is even. Anchor them in place by sticking small pieces of washi tape to the dies and card, before passing them through your die cutting machine.

The star background paper is attached behind the frame before sticking it to the whisper White base. The piggy is stamped twice. Once, onto spotty Petal Pink paper and again onto Vellum. The images are fussy cut out and combined to make the image for the card. The fluffy white clouds are fussy cut too. I couldn't resist using my Wink of Stella pen to add a  touch of sparkle to the clouds and the wings.

The sentiments are stamped and die cut with the Stitched rectangle dies. The die cut for the smaller sentiment is custom made by die-cutting twice!

The smile on the piggy's face is quite infectious and has a real sense of achievement about it. So, this card is for all those people (hes as well as shes!) getting ready for exams this summer. Believe in yourself!

Abstract Impressions for CAS(E) this Sketch #317

Hello and welcome to my blog. It has been warm and sunny here today so I reached out for some warm happy colours to work with for the CAS(E) this SKETCH #317 challenge. As soon as I saw this sketch an idea popped into my head.

I grabbed my Abstract Impressions stamp set and three ink pads: Lovely Lipstick, Calypso Coral and Grapefruit Grove and began stamping!

The colours played really well together and I stamped from dark to light as I moved from upwards from the bottom of the the Whisper White layer. Some of the images were stamped off onto scrap paper first before stamping - this increases the number of shades you can produce.

I love the stitched edges that you can create with dies and I've used two different types on this card. The Be Mine Stitched set has a wonderful scalloped edge die that I used to soften the edge between the Whisper White card and the embossed Grapefruit Grove layer. All the flowers look so pretty together. The detail on the embossed flowers is just wonderful.

Kindness changes everything is a phrase that we should all remember! I stamped it onto a white circle die cut with the Stitched Shapes and layered onto a scalloped Lovely Lipstick circle. The scallops give a pop of colour connecting the colour of the ink and the card base.

I'm happy with my bright sunny card and I hope the cheery weather continues too.

Fable Friends say Happy Spring

Hello and welcome to my blog. Today I have a fun, happy card to share with you featuring the Fable Friends set of stamps. They are wonderful images that scream put to be coloured using your favourite media.

I am playing along with a colour challenge from The Paper Players.

As soon as I saw the colours two things popped into my mind - Gingham Gala papers and Fable Friends. Together, they make a fantastic team!

For the layers I have used the Stitched Shapes and Stitched Rectangle dies - they are some of my favourite tools! Each piece is framed with that fantastic stitched edge. The sentiment and the image are both stamped in Black Memento ink and I used my Stampin' Blends to colour the mischievous rabbit in. The Balmy blue card has all yellow flowers, and the Daffodil Delight card has what I am claiming to be Forget-Me-Nots. I love them. In the garden they tell us that Spring is well and truly here. I know that it's a blue sequin with a yellow middle but I'm calling it a Forget-Me-Not!

The colour combo requires some Calypso Coral, but I thought that just having a couple of coloured buttons was cheating a little, so I added some of the ombre ribbon.  I think it finishes the cards off really well.

The colours and the subject are certainly Springlike, I am hoping that the weather will follow suit in the next couple of days!
