Hello and welcome to my blog. Today I have taken my inspiration from The Paper Players and their 'Day at the zoo' Theme Challenge.
I love visiting the zoo, indeed I have a season ticket to Whipsnade. Its always a pleasure to wander round and gaze at the animals. I love the wide open spaces and views over Dunstable Downs. When our children were much younger we would plan our visit to follow the displays and zoo keeper talks - on one memorable inset day my son was picked to enter the elephant arena and do a challenge with the elephants and the keepers. Nowadays, the children don't come with us that often, and Neil and I prefer to meander round at our own pace, but we always make sure we visit the elephants (and the butterflies)!
So for my z-fold card today, I started with the bright, happy colours from the Birthday Bonanza Designer Series Paper, added the Little Elephant stamps, coordinating punch and accessorised using the bunting from the Bonanza dies. Life and zoo trips are an adventure so I also used the Sweet Silhouettes dies to add the Grapefruit Grove adventure.
Several times on our zoo visits, we have been privileged to see the elephants and their keepers taking their daily exercise. It is a wonderful sight seeing them walking in a line, tail to trunk, especially when there is a baby one in tow. The very first time we saw them out for a walk around the grounds we were so excited but when we looked at the twins in their double buggy they were fast asleep, and they missed the spectacle completely! Special memories (but we did capture it on film)!
Thank you Paper Players for taking me on this trip down Memory Lane - I have thoroughly enjoyed reminiscing and I'm so looking forward to a time when we can start visiting the zoo again. For now, I can make cards and follow the zoo updates online.

Lovely card Karen, elephants are one of my favourites at the zoo.🐘
ReplyDeleteThanks Ruth. They are fascinating aren't they!
DeleteIt was so fun to read about your wonderful memories of zoo visits. In Oregon where I grew up and lived until just recently, the zoo was known for it's elephants and they are indeed a treat to see. Such wonderful creatures. I adore your card, Karen! The babies linked nose to tail is super cute and the bunting is the perfect decoration. So glad you enjoyed the challenge and for sharing with us at The Paper Players this week!
ReplyDeleteI adore making cards, but this one was more about the memories!
DeleteI loved reading about your zoo adventures! There are no zoos close to us, but I did get to ride an elephant at the San Diego zoo when my sister lived in California! I still remember it! Meanwhile, this little tribe of elephants is as cute as can be, especially with your fabulous fold and the AMAZING colors you used! I love it! Thanks for sharing them and playing with my challenge at the Paper Players this week!
ReplyDeleteWow! Riding an elephant is SO special.
DeletePlaying along with your challenges is always inspirational.
