My eldest children are twins and they have both recently passed their driving test, so it seemed apt to share this card. I combined the Geared Up Garage bundle, the Stitched Rectangle dies and the embossing mats to create my card. The car image is stamped randomly over the Basic Grey card using matching ink to make the background. Then I cut layers from Crushed Curry and Tranquil Tide card using the stitched rectangle dies. Ooh I love these - have I mentioned that before?!
My favourite part of this card is the variety of textures. There's the stamping on the background, the stitching around the rectangles the two different types of embossing; on the gears and the words. The (well kept) secret weapon are the Big Shot Embossing Mats which were used to emboss the gears. I haven't used these very much before, which is a shame because they are fantastic. When paired with the mats Framelits, Thinlets and Edgelit dies do more than just cutting - they emboss too. How useful is that?
There are two possibilities with the blue and grey embossing mats: cutting and embossing (Basic Grey and foil gear shapes) and just embossing (Tranquil Tide layer). Full instructions (with pictures) come along with the mats. I'm definitely going to use these more! Before I started the assembly process for my batch of cards, the pile of ingredients looked like this. The texture on the Tranquil Tide layer can be seen quite clearly!
The sentiment is heat embossed using black embossing powder to compiment the colour scheme. I originally intended that the cards would be used to celebrate a birthday, but I think that Driving Test success is a reason to celebrate too.
