Painterly Pears for the New At SU! Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to my blog. Today, I am participating in the New at SU! blog hop. We are a group of Stampin' Up!® demonstrators from around the world who are full of creative papercrafting ideas to share with you to get you crafting. This month we are casing a team member. The concept of casing has several definitions - Copy And Selectively Edit or Copy And Share Everything are popular interpretaions. I like to think of it as an inspiration starting point, but using an actual project rather than a sketch or colour combination.

I have the absolute pleasure of casing a project from Jan Musselman's collection. I chose to case her card from July's New at SU! hop which had a birthday theme.

This card is right up my street - flowers, lots of layers and embossing! While Jan used the gorgeous Charming Day bundle from the Floral Charm Suite I have chosen to use the Painterly Pears Suite instead. The focal point on my card, as the name of the suite suggests is the pears, but there are still a few flowers and I've used the same sentiment.

The design elements that I honed in on are:

  • White card base with Mossy Meadow and DSP layers
  • Corrugated embossing folder
  • Modern oval dies from the Impressions Abloom set
  • Happy Birthday sentiment
  • Splatters and scattered embellishments

I love the oval shape from the Impressions Abloom set as it creates such a perfect layer for displaying the elements on a card. The Mini Corrugated embossing folder provides a lovely texture within the frame which is enhaced with some ink splatters from a Mossy Meadow marker - just a couple of flicks to add that something extra to the background.
I have die cut the pears from the designer series paper to create my focal point but they do have a watercolour effect on them to emulate Jan's watercoloured flowers.

The Happy Birthday sentiment comes from the Charming Day set. I love the handwritten font, especially when it has been heat embossed. Here I have used white powder on a strip of Mossy Meadow card that is tucked under the pears.

To finish off my card I added a scattering of teeny tiny Petal Pink die cut flowers, some die cut leaves and a few Iridescent Pearls. Inside the card has a layer of Mossy Meadow topped with some pretty DSP. A section of the DSP with the white space and an all around border creates a perfect layer for a handwritten message.

I am really pleased with how my card turned out - it's a pretty close copy of Jan's, but at the same time it is different! I think that this card layout could be used with lots of different papers and bundles and it is one that I will CASE again for sure!

I hope that you have been inspired by my project today. Continuing along the hop to the others will provide you with even more project ideas - you are currently with me, Furry Cat Designs by Karen Henderson - but before you hop on to the next post, please take a moment to leave a comment. We love reading your comments!

Thank you for joining me today for the All Star Design Team Video Class Bundle Blog Hop for August 2025.
At the start of each month, each of us creates another project using the featured suite of products to give you even more inspiration. Here is my additional Floral Impressions Suite project.

When I'm choosing flowers to buy, or to create out of paper, I usually gravitate to pinks and purples and there are several sheets of the DSP that would fill that need. However, today I chose to be different! We have been nurturing several sunflowers in the garden and a couple of them are already rewarding us with cheery blooms. Hopefully the rest will follow suit. So for my cards today, I opted to use the sunflower/daisy print for a change from my usual colour scheme.

I have created a fun-fold card utilising the fabulous oval dies to create a decorative flap. The DSP looked equally good on a backdrop of Garden Green or Early Espresso, so I made a version in each colour.

To mimic the flowers on the DSP I used the flower dies to cut a trio of flowers in Crushed Curry, Petal Pink and Very Vanilla (which I don't normally mix with Basic White!). Simply cutting the flowers using the dies adds some detail but I also curled the petals and added some ink blending to the edges and/or the centre of the flowers to add even more texture. Adding Crushed Curry ink to the centre of the Very Vanilla flower gives the illusion of a very pale yellow daisy.

To break up the white space of the background, I opted to add some ink splatters from a marker pen in the same colour as I'd stamped the sentiment. Instead of gems I added some of the teeny tiny die cut flowers to finish off the cards.

I am really pleased with the inside of the card. I used the strip of card cut away from the front panel to act as the hinge to make the ovals operate like a flap. The hinge is covered so that you cannot see it - the back portion is hidden beneath an oval which provides the place to write a message and the top portion is sandwiched between layers of card and DSP.

This suite is perfect whether you are in the mood for stamping or die cutting flowers or both! I am pleased with these cards inspired by my garden and I hope you feel inspired to create somrthing with this suite too. Let me know what you think in the comments below. If you would like more ideas using this suite you can purchase the tutorial bundle (along with previous tutorials) HERE
