Follow your Art

Hello and welcome to the International Highlights Winners Blog Hop! I am delighted to be participating in this blog hop today because of everyone who voted for me here where we made a card of Encouragement. I feel privileged to be hopping with this wonderful group of demonstrators today and this is the card that many of you voted for to enable me to do so.

The theme for the hop is again Encouragement and my card is a congratulatory one for one of my team members. It's a fancy fold card that is special for a Hip, Hip Hooray occasion. I have a been compiling a list of fancy fold cards to try and I'm enjoying revisiting old favourites and learning how to make new ones.

This design is basically two interlocking cards where the smaller one opens backwards and then bigger one opens traditionally. There are lots of layers and opportunities for adding embellishments. I have gone to town with this card and seem to have added everything but the kitchen sink! This is the card making equivalent of being unable to travel light, which I recently confessed to a friend that I wasn't very good at!

How have I decorated my card? In the main, I have used the Follow Your Art Suite and used Coastal Cabana, Calypso Coral and copper for my colour scheme.

Hands up who has a weakness for pens. Count me as a yes to that question. So, there are no surprises that I have stamped the trio of pens across the front panel using Coastal Cabana ink for a coordinated tone on tone look as my starting point. Extra crafty details are added using copper foil with the dies - gorgeous buttons and a paperclip. The felt star comes from the embellishment kit. I did mention that this is a Hip Hip Hooray card, so obviously I had to add a copper hooray using the Well Written dies.

The Button Button embossing folder is a must for any crafter and it looks fabulous on the Coastal Cabana card. But, just look at how absolutely stunning it looks on the copper foil layer. Amazing! The pencils are stamped using black Memento ink and coloured using my Blends to make them look like the Stampin' Up! watercolour pencils.

When the card is fully open you can see another embossed copper panel, with an important message on it. Do something creative every day. I try to follow this mantra by making a card, writing or doodling in my journal, sewing or cooking something for fun. I am sure it is good for you!

The middle sections are simple, yet striking. The button border is complemented with stamped buttons and die cut press-studs. The sentiments are from It Starts with Art and Little Elephant.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my crafty fix for today and I have some ideas for more cards using some of the same ingredients, but that will have to wait until next time.

I hope you have been inspired by the project on my blog today, and that you will do something creative today.  You are currently visiting Karen Henderson.  Please see the list below and hop around all of the other winners on the list to see all our projects.  You sure don't want to miss any!

Little Elephant Congratulations!

Hello and welcome to my blog. I love creating with inks and paper. Making Congratulations! cards have to be some of the best types of cards to make. I have combined two fabulous sets to make a card to celebrate new life. Even better, I need to send one of them out straight away.

These cards also fit the bill for The Paper Players Clean & Simple challenge this week set by Joanne.

http://thepaperplayers.blogspot.com/2019/08/pp455-clean-and-simple-challenge-from.html

How did I make this card? Firstly, I used the large square puzzle piece die from the Puzzle Pieces die set to emboss some Thick Whisper White card to give just an impression of the puzzle pieces, using the now retired embossing mats. The die could be used traditionally but you would need to stick the pieces back together again.

Then, I took the Congratulations! from the Little Elephant stamp set and repeated it across the puzzle square starting at the top in the middle and then moving down and side to side to fill up the space. Each line has a bold image and the rest are lighter second generation ink. Using scissors I cut along the outside edges of the square and layered it onto a slightly bigger square of matching card before adding it to a square card base. It's a neat 9.9cm x 9.9cm card. You can cut three from one sheet of card, and they are so cute.

The card is finished with two decorated jigsaw hearts layered up on top of each other. The elephant is stamped on Whisper White, punched out with the coordinating punch and is blowing love hearts into the air. The other one simply has 'hello little one' stamped on it. Really, these words say it all.

I have a top tip for sticking the hearts down to the card - before removing the pieces from the heart shaped puzzle piece use a small strip of washi tape to stick the four sections together. Then, when they come out of the die you can easily position them on your card with out them falling apart!

I am pleased with this design so I have made a few extra to have on hand - girl and boy versions! I have had so much fun with the Little Elephant and Puzzle Pieces sets. Thank you to the Paper Players for the Clean and Simple starting point and inspiration. Until next time!
