Hello and welcome to my blog. Today, I am participating in the New at SU! blog hop. We are a group of Stampin' Up!® demonstrators from around the world who are full of creative papercrafting ideas to share with you to get you crafting. This month our theme is Tied up with Bows. I love adding bows to my projects whether they are on bags, boxes or cards. They can be used as a closure or they can be purely decorative!
Although I have absolutely loved making batches of Christmas cards, I am now ready for a change. I have several sets which feature cakes but I had to have the Cake Celebrations bundle too - it's an Online Exclusive so you won't see it in a catalogue. Why did I need another cake set? Simply because it reminds me of my mum. When I was growing up she attended sugarcraft classes and I remember her spending hours creating wonderful things to decorate cakes with. She had endless patience an a great attention to detail whether it be smoothing fondent icing or piping 3-d flowers. My most vivid memory is of a Christmas cake topped with a magnificent sleigh pulled by reindeer, and all made from icing.
Anyway, I digress. For my card featuring a bow, I imagined an elegant card with white on white detailing. So I began with tiers of embossed Basic White card layered onto another slightly bigger layer of Basic White. The cake itself is pieced together using die cut elements from the bundle - I used two pieces of card for the layers of the cake to add a tiny lift, without the use of dimensionals. There are white heat embossed elements to decorate the top tier - little tiny flowers or perhaps flowers and the overflowing icing has sparkle
The Berry Burst cardbase provides a pop of colour to match the bow. My colour choice was dictated by a piece of ribbon left over from a previous project, but many more colours would work too. Iridescent Trim naturally sparkles in the light, but it can also be coloured using Blends. In this case I used Berry Burst. Cutting along the length of the trim gives you a narrower ribbon to tie even more dainty bows with. The iridescent threads still sparkle alongside the coloured background.
A celebration cake needs a fancy stand! This one is cut from Silver Foil, as is the banner on the top. The only additional decoration I added was a teeny flower perched on the top of the cake. I die cut the smallest flower after stamping it using Berry Burst ink. I stamped off first to get a paler image.
I am sure that Mum would have enjoyed creating a cake like this. I set out to create an elegant card. Hopefully, the little details have elevated it to achieve a simple and elegant card! Please continue along the hop as I am sure that the others will provide you with even more inspiration - you are currently with me, Furry Cat Designs by Karen Henderson - but before you hop on to the next post, please take a moment to leave a comment. We love reading your comments!
