Enjoy Life!

Hello and welcome to my blog. Today I am taking part in Kylie Bertucci's International Blog Highlights for December. I am happy to share with you my card with the theme of encouragement.

The art of card making is a wonderful way to send encouragement to someone who needs a pick me up. A get well soon note, or Wow! you are amazing or even a thank you card. They are all ways to tell someone that you are thinking about them. Opening a handmade card can make such a difference to a person's day.

I have made two cards using the Enjoy Life stamps and the See A Silhouette designer series papers. I love the name of this stamp set - and I think it works perfectly for this highlight! I have used the foliage type stamp and the butterflies quite a few times, but the other stamps had been overlooked. So, I challenged myself to use a different image and this is what I came up with.

The cards use similar ingredients, but the way I made the backgrounds differ. Each technique is fun to do and creates a one of a kind background.

For the first card I stamped the bike image on Shimmery white card in Highland Heather ink and then used an aqua painter to spread the colour out to make a wash of colour. I also added some very diluted Blueberry Bushel ink to add a subtle blue hue to the background. After the background was dry, (I used my heat tool to speed up the process as I'm impatient!) I stamped the bike image again using Blueberry Bushel ink. Thank to Jackie Noble for sharing this technique with me, while we were swapping at OnStage in Dortmund.

For my second background I scribbled Highland Heather and a sparing amount of Blueberry Bushel ink from Stampin' Write markers onto an acrylic block, then spritzed them liberally with water and then "stamped" the ink onto some Shimmery White card. As you press the block on the paper the ink spreads and mixes to create a fun background. Once the background was dry I again stamped the bike image twice in Highland Heather and Blueberry Bushel. The two images create a sense of movement. I stamped the little sentiment repeatedly on the left hand side. The ink gradually fades the more times you stamp with out reinking the stamp.

Well, that was an epic explanation to create the backgrounds but honestly, they are very easy to do. To complete the cards I used the Stitched Rectangle dies to crop the Shimmery White card and another smaller one in Blueberry Bushel card. The celebrate sentiment is stamped in Versamark and heat embossed in white, which compliments the DSP (which makes me think of tyre tracks!) and is a striking contrast to the Blueberry Bushel. After layering up the papers I added a few Noble Peacock Rhinestones just to finish it off!

I hope you like my celebration cards perfect for an active person. One of these cards has already been sent to my bike riding nephew and I also have an idea who to send the second one to. The fun bit about this Highlight is that you can vote for your favourite five projects in the gallery. At the end of the voting the top ten winners will get the chance to be part of an international blog hop that will take place at the end of December. I would love to be able to take part in the hop, so I would be really grateful if you would visit the gallery and vote for my card.
