Tasteful Textures

Hello and welcome to my blog. The weather here has been dull and dreary, but I have taken solace in my crafting! I am naturally drawn to a cool palette of colours, and these cards are perfect examples using some of my favourites.

At OnStage recently I swapped cards that I had made with other Demonstrators, and in return I received projects that they had made. Some of them were 3-d items; bags, boxes, treats and the like, but the majority of them were cards. They all provide so much inspiration and I love looking through them.

Today's cards were inspired by a swap from Diane Marlow and they use the Tasteful Textures bundle. The set of dies contains three distinctive shapes that remind me of stained glass, especially when they are paired up with the See a Silhouette designer series papers. The one side of the papers has a marbled look which looks stunning peeping through the die cut hole!

So, how did I make these cards? I wanted a compact layer to frame the dies so I opted for notecard sized cards. I usually work with metric measurements, but for these cards I measured and cut in inches because the dimensions of the notecards lend themselves more easily to imperial measurements! Notecard fronts measure 5" x 3 1/2" and my layers are 3/8" smaller all round.

At the start of the process I wasn't sure which of the shapes I wanted to use, so I cut a pile of thick Whisper White layers and die cut a few of each shape and added a sentiment. I have used one from the Tasteful Textures set and supplemented it by also using sentiments from the Enjoy Life, Itty Bitty Birthdays and Itty Bitty Greeting sets. Each layer was embossed using the Subtle folder to add a bit of extra texture before adding a piece of the designer series paper behind the die cut hole.

I tied some white bakers twine around the layers and added them either to a coordinating layer or directly to a card base. Finally, I went to town adding some Rhinestone Basic Jewels to finish off the cards. I do like the way they sparkle!

I thoroughly enjoyed making these bright blue cards, and I even managed to sneek in one of my favourite sized square cards. They definitely cheered up my day. I hope you like them too.

Wrapped in Plaid Pine Tree

Hello and welcome to my blog. I had a wonderful time in Dortmund at Stampin' Up!'s OnStage event. It was so inspiring! I came back home filled with happy memories and bursting with ideas. However, I have found it difficult to get my creative blogging momentum back on track, so apologies for my absence here last week.

I'm back with a simple card done in two colourways. The Wrapped in Plaid Designer Series Paper is a stack of Classic Christmas plaid patterned paper with gold foil accents. What could be more Christmassy? I have focused on Cherry Cobbler, Shaded Spruce and Whisper White for the colours of the cards, but the stack also includes Night of Navy, another of my favourite colours.

To start the card I punched out the tree from an 8cm x 8cm square of card. There is a gap beneath the punched out tree that is perfect for a sentiment. To echo the gold foiling in the paper I gold heat embossed the words.

I placed DSP behind the tree shaped hole, lining up the plaid and gold foiling or an even pattern. This top layer is mounted onto a contrasting 8.4cm x 8.4cm layer and then onto a small square card, measuring  9.9cm x 9.9cm. I like this size of card because you can cut three of them from one sheet of A4 card.

The final touch was to add a gold star to the top of the tree - this was left over from another project where I used the Stitched in Stars dies. It is satisfying to use up all the left over bits!

Thank you for visiting my blog today. If you want to purchase the items used for this card, or any other supplies, please take a look in my online Stampin' Up! shop.  You can follow the link or click on the pictures below of the products I have used today.
