Rooted in Nature

Hello and welcome to my blog. My card today was created using challenge over at The Paper Players as my starting point. This week the challenge is to follow the fabulous sketch created by Ann Marie.

The Rooted in Nature stamp set has some wonderful words alongside the various tree images - and I particularly wanted to use the Be Strong, Be Happy, Be You. They appear in the stamp set in a block, but they are very easy to trim out separately after you have stamped them so that you can position them where you want them to be.

The other elements of the card almost picked themselves - the Early Espresso layer was ready, waiting to be used. Pink and brown work harmoniously so when I went to the folder with the Rococo Rose card in it and the die cut strip from the Wild Rose dies was already there, the colour choices were picked and the diagonal element too. I love it when pieces that were surplus to requirements for one project become the ideal elements for another!

I used the Pinewood Planks embossing folder to add texture to the Vanilla layer and to tie the elements together. The ready made elements and the fabulous sketch made this a very quick card to make. I'm sure I will use this sketch again!

Forever Fern Trio

Hello and welcome to my blog. It's been a very busy two weeks and I'm sad to say that I have had little time or energy to be creative. These are the only cards that I have made recently - I used the stunning Forever Fern stamps which were still on my desk from my last blog post.

This time I have used more traditional colours. I saw these colours in my garden and on my walk to work, especially after there had been a drop of rain. Then, the greenery looked particularly vibrant and lush and I've used that as my inspiration.

Now, the list of ingredients is quite long but I've tried to give you a variety of ways to combine different colours and sentiments to finish off what is essentially the same card.

The leaf stamp is stamped repeatedly on the central panel - I started at the top left hand corner and created a cascade of leaves. Some images are stamped full strength, and others are stamped off first to provide a variety of shades. The leafy panel is then mounted onto a coordinating layer.

For the just because card the leaves are stamped in Garden Green on a Soft Sea Foam panel and mounted onto a Garden Green layer. The Garden Green base card is decorated with a Soft Sea Foam panel that has been textured with the Subtle folder and the sentiment is white heat embossed on a label cut with the So Sentimental dies. Amongst the Elegant Faceted gems there are some lovely pearly ones that are used here to complete the card.

The many thanks card features a Whisper White panel with Shaded Spruce stamped leaves and a Pinewood Planks embossed layer. For a coordinated look I gold heat embossed the sentiment, added gold embellishments in the form of Gilded Gems and some of the gold twine from the Forever Fern Trim Combo pack. It is a little bit like embroidery floss and I unravelled some to separate the strands to decorate behind the sentiment.

The thank you card has a little of the luxurious Gold Laser Cut Paper poking out from behind the central panel. It is part of the Forever Fern Suite and I can't wait to use it on more projects. It is totally stunning. The card base is Shaded Spruce, which is a great foil for the gold leaves and heat embossing. It's topped with a Pear Pizzazz panel stamped with Shaded Spruce leaves. The thank you is fussy cut from a larger sentiment in the So Sentimental set and mounted on dimensionals to give it a lift. The sprinkling of Gilded Gems finishes off the card.

So, I hope you will forgive me for the the long list of ingredients and that you agree that it is justified for the three different looks for essentially the same card! I am really pleased with these small panel cards. If you want to purchase the items used for these cards, or any other supplies, please take a look in my online Stampin' Up! shop. Stay safe and as always, happy crafting,

Kylie's Demonstrator Training Program Blog Hop July 2020

Hello and welcome to my blog. I am thrilled to be taking part in a blog hop with fellow demonstrators, from around the world, who are part of Kylie Bertucci's training program. There is no theme for the hop, but there is sure to be a wealth of inspiration for creating with Stampin' Up! products.

My cards today aren't quite one layer cards, but they are very flat and perfect for posting. They have a layered look created with the help of masking to ink the background.

Masking is a fabulous technique. On these cards I have used scrap paper to mask the background. While the scrap paper was in place I used a sponge brayer to apply Coastal Cabana ink on the Whisper White card. Then, once the scrap paper is removed there is a coloured strip, with crisp edges, through the centre of the card layer.

Extra detail was added by applying Coastal Cabana ink through the dotty Basic Pattern Decorative Mask using a Sponge Dauber. The dots show up on the background even though I used the same colour. It's another layer of colour that gives depth and extra texture. I've stamped more dots to define the edges of the coloured strip and this time I used Bermuda Bay ink.

The Tasteful Label dies have a variety of nesting shapes and a variety of edges. There are stitched edges, embossed ones and some scalloped ones. All very pretty and perfect for sentiments and layering up together. I applied adhesive sheet to my Night of Navy card before die cutting the bold letters from the Pattern Play set to make it quick and easy to adhere them to the card...I want to try using the new foam adhesive sheets for raised letters too!

To complete the cards, I pulled out the very versatile Itty Bitty Birthday's stamp set. The white layers have a clean and fresh feel to them which was continued through to the colour choices for the additional layer and base card. Fun, simple cards ready to post!

Thank you for visiting my blog today - you are currently visiting Karen Henderson. Please look at the list below to see who to visit next. I am sure you will find lots of inspiration on your journey around the hop. Make sure you don't miss any!
